Instrument Gauge Voltage Regulator Upgrade

Following the example from Mopar Action, I pulled the old mechanical voltage regulator that supplied 5 volts to the fuel and temp gauges, and replaced it with a solid-state regulator. The solid state unit is much more reliable than the mechanical regulator, which had failed and fried the gauges.

Voltage regulator removed; condenser will also get tossed.

new parts, L-R: heat sink for VR, condenser, VR.

wire leads soldered to VR. Terminals are (L-R) Input (12v), ground, and output (5v)

Head-shrink tubing protects lug connections.

Everything soldered in place. VR and heat sink mount in the old condenser's location, you can even re-use the mounting screw.

Testing new setup using a 9-volt battery for input. Output is 5 volts exactly!
